Setting Up FTP Access

Your can update your web site 24 hours a day using FTP. Many web authoring programs have integrated FTP, which makes the process of uploading and updating your site fairly simple. If your web authoring program does not have built in FTP support, you will need to obtain an FTP program so that you can upload your site. There are many shareware FTP programs available on-line that can be downloaded.

Regardless of whether or not you are using a separate program for FTP or your web authoring program has built in FTP support, you will need to know the following information in order to upload your site using FTP:

FTP host name: This is sometimes also referred to as simply the "hostname", URL, or address. Enter your full domain name here.
FTP user name/id: This was provided to you in an email message when you opened your account with Action Web. If you have forgotten your user name, you can look it up by logging into ServerTools and selecting the FTP Manager option.
FTP password: Your password was also provided to you in an email message when you opened your account. If you have forgotten your password, you can assign a new password by logging into ServerTools and selecting the FTP Manager option.
Remote Directory: Not all FTP programs request this and, in most cases, you can leave this field blank. If that doesn't work, enter /www.

There may be many other options that are requested by your FTP software, and you can usually leave the rest of the settings alone. Ocassionally you may need to specify the following values:

Port: 21
Host Type: Unix
